Jury’s still out, but this may be the most interesting piece in my closet. First and foremost – what is it exactly? A dress, cape, robe, shield of armor? All of the above? Second – the shoulders and ties are cool design elements. Last but not least – I dig the mature look and feel of the brown suede texture.
Those are all the positives.
The downside with this piece is that – it’s so unique – I feel pressure to style it perfectly.
That’s what drew me to it when I first laid eyes on it at Laura’s La Poubelle Vintage booth at the Manhattan Vintage Clothing Show. I have a vision of how I want to style, channeling one of my favorite fashionistas, Tracee Ellis Ross. She has a whimsical, yet stylish way with unique dress silhouettes and patterns.
This look doesn’t represent my vision, to be honest, but it’s playful. I’m wearing brown riding leggings with suede panels, brown Kensie wedges, and a long sleeved white top with lace detail. The sunnies are from Quay Australia, my favorite affordable brand for sunglasses.
