From the liquid gold shirt, down to the Wrangler jeans, and back up to the vintage sunglass frames, I styled this outfit to look and feel very 1970’s. It was not intentional, so I guess it was #avibe.
Actually, it was more of a coincidence. I started putting this outfit together with this gold shirt (copped from the Manhattan Vintage Clothing Show). I love this shirt because of the collar (I like pieces with structured elements), the metallic finish (cause that’s slick), it’s oversized (cause I think wearing oversized clothes confidently is cool – Rihanna does this very well), and because the sleeves are long (rare find for me, I’m 5’9″).
I wanted the look to feel casual so I opted for a slightly destructed blue jean. If I had gone with any other bottom, it would have felt too dressy. I debated tucking the shirt in because that would have appeared cleaner, but I think that would have felt too dressy as well.
The shoes, coat, and vintage sunnies bring the blue and gold palette together without overdoing it. They also keep the look chic, but stay true to the throwback feel.
Thanks, Jason Chang, for braving the cold (especially on the waterfront) to capture these shots and for the blog feature! BTW, yes, the police car says “Gotham.” I guess we’d stumbled upon a Batman set :).
