My stay at Sthala Tribute Hotel was phenomenal. I was sad to go…no really, I teared up when I left for the airport. The grounds are stunning and the staff and service were incredibly special, making me feel right at home.
Sthala is in Ubud (a town in the middle of the island of Bali). It’s situated in the village of Lodtunduh which is very neat because you get to see and experience the local culture. Every morning, I woke up to roosters (that might sound miserable – I found it refreshing and I’m NOT even a morning person!!) and my views were of a flowing river and houses peering over a jungle filled with lush trees. If that sounds picturesque, that’s because it was!!
The hotel’s an easy 15-minute ride from the town of Ubud and they offer a free roundtrip shuttle every two hours. Some people prefer to stay in town, which I get. However, I liked the balance of being settled in a quiet, peaceful village with the option of going to the bustling town. It’s like living in Brooklyn and working in Manhattan (which is what I do).
Here are the amenities Sthala offers:
Wow – the service was top notch! The staff was incredibly warm and accommodating and takes the time to strike up convo, offer recommendations, and make the guests feel comfortable.
To/From Airport: From the airport, Uber is an option, but a) American Express isn’t accepted, so have VISA/Mastercard as a payment option in the app and b) drivers will text and ask for payment in cash (Rupiahs – the local currency).
Going to the airport, I booked a driver through the hotel’s preferred service.
Around the City: Walking is safe, but the sidewalks are narrow and uneven. WEAR FLATS! Otherwise, motorbikes are the main mode of transportation. Again, Uber may be an option but having cash on hand is a must. Fortunately, the hotel offers a free shuttle to/from the town (it drops off/picks up at a Coco, a full-scale grocery store with a few ATMs).
Highly recommend. The pricing was very affordable and a great deal for all that the hotel offers (amenities, location, and service).
