I recently attended the Vivienne Tam sample sale in the Garment District. Vivienne Tam is a Chinese-American designer. Her brand is very well known for blending Chinese and American designs and cultural aesthetics. She mainly does dresses but has other ready-to-wear clothing as well. I just became a major fan of hers. I had heard of her brand but – to be honest – it was out of my range (price-wise). However, after checking out her recent sample sale, I’m obsessed!
This particular sale is for her vintage pieces from previous years and collections. Most of the items I saw were sample sizes but there were a few items available in other sizes as well. The dresses were beautiful – lovely fabrics, silhouettes, colors – and there was a nice variety of cocktail, party, dressy, and formal. A few had flaws, so be sure to inspect for slight tears and rips.
All the dresses were in one room. There was a second room with other apparel. I was unable to check out the second room because the sale was scheduled to end at 6 and I arrived at 5:50 PM. While they gladly let me in, I didn’t want to overstay my welcome. Because I wasn’t able to make the full rounds during my first visit, I’m planning to return for the last day of the sale of the Vivienne Tam sample sale. I am not sure if prices will be marked down any further. If not, that’s okay because I thought the pricing was really good.
Items are color-coded based on price, which ranges from $30 to $150. That is phenomenal for this brand, considering retail prices are in the hundreds to thousands! There were also 3-4 boxes of handbags (leather, fabric, straw) – all were $20!
I got three dresses and a bag (haul coming soon). I can’t wait to go back for the second day! Did you go to this sale? Have you been to previous sales by the brand? Let me know what you thought in the comments.
